A number of youth, representing various football teams from Dandora, held a demonstration in Nairobi on Tuesday over the delayed completion of the Dandora Stadium.
The youth were seeking answers as to why the facility, whose contraction started in 2018, is yet to be completed, having reached 85 percent of works by the time construction stopped.
Led by Dandora Ward Two Member of County Assembly Silas Matara, the youth demonstrated outside the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) demanding that construction works resume while calling on the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Director General Mohammed Badi to act.

“Why the stalemate? When the President was opening the renovated Nyayo Stadium (two weeks ago), he ordered all stadiums to be completed by December. As Dandora Stadium committee, we have knocked all doors that might have a say with no response. Today we want to petition DG NMS if he can be in the position to finish the stadium since he has some functions to clear in Nairobi,” the youth said.
“The stadium is 85 percent complete but since it has not been used for two years, it looks now very old. That is the reason for today’s protest. Mark you, it is the only public facility in Dandora. So many talents have gone to waste and the resources used will be useless. The economy within the stadium has also deteriorated,” they added.
Works to renovate the facility began in 2018, under the stewardship of the county government, but stalled due to cases over procurement irregularities that are at the centre of investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
