Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has been allowed to skip court sessions when her corruption case is mentioned on October 2.
The MP’s defence asked for the exemption on Wednesday which was granted. The court heard that the lawyers have been supplied with the files that the prosecution intends to use during the proceedings.
The lawmaker is accused of conspiracy to defraud the public of Sh19m belonging to the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF), conflict of interest, money laundering and acquisition of proceeds of crime.
Jumwa was released on a Sh5m bond with a surety or a Sh2m cash bail after the court declined to free her on a free bond as requested by the defence which argued that she is not a flight risk and would attend court sessions whenever required.
Her co-accused are Wachu Omar, Kennedy Otieno, Bernard Riba, Sophia Saidi, Margaret Kalume, Robert Katana and Multiserve contractors.
